Why are we doing this study?
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common type of chronic liver disease in Australia – because it is so common, patients often have to wait a long time to see a specialist for assessment and treatment. Our study is trying out a different way for patients to be seen – by getting a diagnostic scan done by a trained nurse without having to go to the hospital, rather than waiting to go to a specialist hepatology clinic.
Our researchers think that by having this scan done sooner, clinicians will be able to prioritise those with serious liver disease, and avoid long waits and extra appointments for those with mild disease, who may be able to be cared for by their GP instead.
Below you will find some resources about the project, including a short video that describes the importance of the study, and what will happen to you if you choose to take part.
