Research Fellow – Respiratory
Vikas is a Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physician currently working as an early career clinician researcher at the Queensland Children’s Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. A research fellow at AusHSI supported by a Queensland Advancing Research Fellowship, Vikas is a Chief Investigator on various NHMRC funded Randomised Controlled Trials on chronic cough and bronchiectasis in children.
Vikas’s research focusses on the management of chronic cough and bronchiectasis in children to improve health outcomes. He is passionate about evidence-based medicine which can be translated into practice and his clinical research has changed practice locally, nationally and internationally. His study demonstrating that there is increased likelihood of underlying bronchiectasis in a child with a chronic wet cough that persists following 4 weeks of oral antibiotics has been incorporated into the European Respiratory Society statement on protracted bacterial bronchitis in children and the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) chronic cough guidelines.
