Professor Louise Cullen is a Pre-Eminent Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine, Emergency and Trauma Centre, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and clinical trialist and is enthusiastically involved in the translation of research. As an emergency physician, she provides clinical care in Brisbane. She is an accomplished acute disease researcher at the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation, QUT and the School of Medicine, The University of Queensland. Louise is an international expert in cardiac biomarkers with membership on international acute cardiac disease committees and advisor to industry.

Louise has an exceptional track record in clinical studies, translational research, and guideline publication. She has been extensively involved in the translation of research findings into changed clinical practice and has led state-wide reform of emergency practices across Queensland. Louise’s research has been published in top medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. Her work has influenced guidelines including the European Society of Cardiology (2020) and the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines for the evaluation of chest pain (2021). She co-authored the 2016 National Heart Foundation/Cardiac Society of Australia/New Zealand guidelines and is the co-chair of the current revision (2022-).
